Today we combined 2 different projects by two different authors into a single article. It’s because the similarity they have to each other.
The first serie, In Your Fridge, was shot Stephanie de Rouge and was featured in many world famous prints such as New York Times, Vogue, The Guardian, ELLE, Esquire, View Magazine and more. Stephanie visited 13 american families, took their portrait and then she shot their opened refrigerator.
It doesn’t feel very artsy or something but the serie made me feel quite reflective. They make me think what I eat, what kind of food I buy, how hygienic is my kitchen, how often do I cook, do I eat enough of vegetables etc.
The second serie is called You Are What You Eat and Mark Menjivar is its author. Some of the fridges were shot twice. The second shooting happened 4 years after the first one and it’s interesting to see how people’s eating habits change over time.
Since Menjivar released his initial series, the exhibition has traveled to 15 cities. “Every time it travels I collaborate with communities in different ways to create dialogue around food issues in that community,” Menjivar said. “That’s been part of my art practice. It’s been really important to me.”
